Playa San Juan day trips
Just behind Altea runs a different world, much more quiet and unknown than the shoreline. The Aitana Xòrta Sierra frames the so-called Valley of Guadalest. Leaving Polop and Callosa d’en Sarrià on one side, the road enters an agricultural landscape, washed with eroded limestone formations. A beautiful contrast is produced by the naked stone, orange groves and fig trees, which dress up the entire valley, and whose only discordant note is the growing number of nísperos. The higher we go, the landscapes become more hilly and curved. The pines are mixed with tiered bench where almonds blossom. From this fantastic view we find some small crop houses in the form of a porch. From here, the scent of honey, rosemary and lavender will flood our senses.
The Guadalest castle about 20 kilometers from here, is a must for every tourist who is visitiing us. As they say, it is one of the most visited places in Spain. It could not be otherwise, since his place is gorgeous. Guadalest is a village nestled in the rock, with a beautiful landscape background, which stretches over the valley. In it we can find the remains of a medieval castle, and a good number of the most unusual museums that we can imagine : the torture, micro miniatures, the nativity scene the toy … Also, the Ethnological Museum, located in a house of the eighteenth century, where there is a representation of typical rural house of the area. But if you want to lose the feeling of a tourist for a day and go further on… I strongly recommend continuing up until Penáguila Valley, located just a few kilometers from here, where you can admire, among other things, a XIX century beautiful garden , a romantic pond, or an intricate vegetation maze . Don’t miss these beautiful spots..
