Continuing the series that began a few posts ago today we are going to another city, Calpe on the Costa Blanca and some 60 kms away from La Playa San Juan via the AP7 highway N332, or if you prefer to go near the sea which will get you there in about an hour.
Undoubtedly the emblem of the city is the Peñón de Ifach an impressive rock off its beaches that seems to be vigilant in keeping the city from any danger. With its 332 meters in height and a kilometer long, it has always been a key reference for sailors. If you are daring enough you can hike up this rock without the need of special equipment, but we don’t recommend this unless you are an experienced hiker.
Other sites of interest are, El Torreon of Peca built in the XV century and church, and The Plaza of the Mariners. Its great weather, beaches and a welcoming city round up the reason so many foreigners have made this their home. Another great getaway you will not regret.

One of the most commonly used means of transportation in our area is undoubtedly the Tram (fgv), you can get to the centre of Alicante in a short time at a reasonable price and solves the parking problem that exists in the capital. As many as 1.6 million passengers have used it since 2003 when it first became operational. The TRAM, communicates to various locations in the area among other lines is the Postiguet-Campello and communicating with the center-Cabo Huertas La Playa San Juan. Overall users approve this transportation means but there are a few complaints such as the late arrival of the Tram sometimes by 20 minutes, and the wrong information given on the informative screen that confuse and aggravate passengers.
Anyway we think that there are many more benefits than disadvantages, and we are confident that through better organization and a little supervision those little faults could be solved. Either way the TRAM has helped many people here in Playa San Juan connect with Alicante in an easy an affordable manner. We love it.

Air Nostrum a subsidiary of Iberia established a few days ago low-priced tickets (47.07 euros taxts included) for round trips between Alicante and Malaga, Bilbao, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, Asturias, Santander, Seville and Tenerife. There are some restrictions, such as buying travel 14 days before the flight and having to spend three days at the destination or Saturday night stay.
Tickets for this promotional fare are already on sale in Serviberia or through travel agencies while the latter can charge a fee for managing the transaction you can be assured that you are receiving the help of professionals in the field. The fare runs until August 25th for flights from that date until October 31, 2008.
We are glad to see that in times of tight economic “crisis” airlines are willing to provide passengers reduced rates to encourage tourism. Undoubtedly Playa San Juan will benefit from this offer. This is great news.
