On Monday May 10 strike action begins in Alicante’s TRAM (tramcar), there are planned partial strikes during the journey. These breaks will be extended until the end of May and throughout June, except on June 24th when the strike is 24 hours. (So it can not be used on the metropolitan transport during the night of La Cremá).
In the first week of strikes, work stoppages will be made between 10:20 hours and 12:20 hours on Monday and between 18:20 hours and 20:20 hours on Wednesday 12th. Throughout the month of May will be two-hour stoppages. The first 10 days of June, the service will be affected for three hours, and in the days before the feast of San Juan, stoppages are scheduled 5 to 8 hours.
According to the unions, this strike is due to compliance with working hours by employees under graphics regulatory shifts, which agreements have been violated by the management of FGV. Moreover, the public company said that the conflict arises from the failure created by the annual working time of 1567 hours agreed in the collective agreement for all workers.
Once again, users will be primarily affected by the strike.

Finally, the Tram in Playa San Juan, after two years of endless work (not sure if it was two years but to me, it seemed more like 4) has finally finished Line 4, which will be put into operation mid November, a month late according to the schedule, (which does not seem too much, considering it is a public work).
This new section consists of 4.5 km and seven stops, the route runs along the Costa Blanca Avenue where three stations are planned (Cabo Huertas, Playa San Juan and Londres), it will continue along the Oviedo avenue with two other stops, (Plaza de La Coruna and Instituto) to return to the avenida de las Naciones, with the last two stops (Países Escandinavos y Holanda). The Tram will run every 30 minutes, completing the journey from the Postiguet in about 20 minutes.
Well after having been suffered many months of work, we could finally enjoy our new tram line.. It was worth the wait I think..

No one will doubt that the new tram route that will take us from Playa San Juan to Alicante in minutes is a plus for all users and will provide a great means of rapid transportation and ease traffic in both cities.
However, there is a concern that seems logical by local shop oweners who think that this same ease of locomotion may hurt their business in the sense that many people will decide to go to make their purchases in Alicante. That is why Fontplaya President, of the Association of the Fontana commercial center and Playa San Juan, is bringing together small owners and they have made contact with Antonio Carbonell TRAM manager to ask him to extend the train schedule until two o’clock in the morning instead of ending at eleven o’clock at night. This extended schedule would helop small businesses and be able to attract more customers. Julian Gaius Fontplaya president stressed the readiness of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport to this request. but it will all be subject of a study and they will have to get back to them..
We hope everything is solved because the last thing we want is to see our trade financially hurt so we truly hope everything will be resolved in a positive way.

Work has begun for the new Tram stop at Ave Holanda, TRAM loop (L4) that will serve the Playa San Juan.
They have chosen an appropriate design and that does not clash with the area. The components that will sustain it will be an iron canopy, reminiscent to the old railway equipment. An arc of 4 meters high will be the main structure that will be placed in the main roundabout leaving two gardens where one will be planted with fragrant flowers and the other part will be a visual and acoustic barrier. In both areas there will be precast white concrete benches. At night the arch will be lit with a brilliant white light that can be seen from the Playa San Juan.
We hope the construction doesn´t take too long and that we are able to enjoy this new stop that will service all of us and give a new decor to our area..
