All Saints Day
Today, November 1st all countries with a Catholic tradition will celebrate of All Saints Day, a holiday that was instituted by Pope Urban IV to compensate for the omission of any celebration during the year of any saint. In the Orthodox Church, who also celebrates this day, they do so on the first Sunday after Pentecost and other churches such as the Lutheran and Anglican also celebrate this day but also in different days.
In Spain it is tradition to celebrate it with typical foods of each place and especially desserts. In our City the Concentaina province, celebrates the Fira de Tots sants (All Saints Day Celebration) a tradition that dates back to 1346 and that makes it undoubtedly one of the oldest celebrations in Spain. Currently, agricultural machinery is displayed, products from the countryside and local foods in addition to many other attractions, more than 300,000 people attend this fair each year. Consentaina and its fair, about an hour from La Playa San Juan on the N-340, might be an interesting choice to celebrate this day with the family.
The following day, November 2nd, is the day that commemorates the faithfully departed in this day families go to cemeteries to bring flowers to the graves of their loved ones, go to Mass or religious services to honor the dead and families gather to remember their missing relatives. It is a day of recollection.
