Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009
As many of you already know the 10th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race is just around the corner and this year Alicante was chosen as the starting place for this exciting sailing competition. The round the world race officially begins October 11th 2008, but before then we will have an opportunity to see the preceding regatta which will begin October 4th.
The race will have 11 stops in several countries such as China, Ireland and Russia to name a few, making the starting point of Alicante a very important event for the Costa Blanca and the Valencian community. The Reginal Government has created a 40,000 square meter village full of fun and activities for the entire family by the port of Alicante which will be open to the public between the 19th of September until the beginning of the race on the 11th of October.
This is a once in a lifetime event, that you should not miss if you are in this area. From the Playa San Juan you are in the Alicante port in a snap with the TRAM or the bus..No excuse to see these amazing boats and experience the beautiful sport of sailing.
