La Playa San Juan

Today is Labor Day a very special day,  a holiday in almost all countries (on other days)  .

In general we are off from work, a free day (and when it falls on a Friday like this year, it’s great), people travel and have fun with friends, family etc..

But few of us stop to think that this day is very important because I hate to repeat myself, I know i have said this a thousand times I don’t like comemorative days, but in this case it is different, because we can celebrate that we live in freedom and democracy which is not the same in many countries of the world in which slavery is still around, as hard as it is to beleive.

Tomorrow Saturday May 2nd the selection of the Bellea del Foc 2009 in the Alicante Bull Ring will take place (where you can buy tickets), I can’t believe Hogueras are just around the corner again!!

It seems this year they have changed the rules and to be able to take on be able to take charge of the tittle, there is no age limit to the applicants, and it is not forbidden to be a mother (it’s about time, we come into the 21st century); and this year one of the candidates also has a daughter who is running for the junior tittle.

I love to refer to the Spanish sayings because they will always describe the situations as accurately as possible, so today I echo the same and I say: “Éramos pocos y parió la abuela” ( “We were few and then the grandmother gave birth.”)

Economic crisis with all its consequences, unemployment, uncontrolled immigration, wars, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, etc.. etc. etc. and if all this is not enough suddenly something new appears, with a Mexican passport and discriminatory features which preferentially attacks the young (what a  paradox) , a flu that threatens to end all of us if we don’t take care. This time it was the pigs (pardon me) the guilty ones (before were the birds). The truth is that in less than a week this disease has spread across the world causing death or physical nuances to hundreds of people and threatening to become an epidemic.

Despite the economic storm that is upon us, Futurmoda opened its doors recently at the IFA, this exhibition is dedicated to leather and footwear components for leather. It seems that the chairman of this Organizing Committee Peter Vives wants to make good of the old saying  “To bad weather a good face.”

The main participants are industries in Elche and Elda, but this year there are new exhibitors who have joined to reach a  total of 87 companies which is a significant number given the circumstances.

Playa San Juan would like to  congratulate all participants and coordinators of this event as important as the relevance of the footwear industry in our area and we wish them the best.
