Alicantinos to the rescue of their monuments

Published by under Alicante,construction,landmarks

The Department of Culture of the City Council of Alicante, has launched a proposal, I believe is very interesting one, they are asking for the participation of all Alicantinos. Here is the deal… in Alicante (for all those who do not know) next to the bullring, is the so-called Pantheon Quijano, which is a garden that houses the remains of the Trino González de Quijano, ( Civil Governor of Alicante, who died during a cholera epidemic) and that is of extraordinary beauty,in which there is a monument dedicated to this illustrious Alicantino.

Well, the City Council’s intention is to rehabilitate it, and has appealed to people who may have a photo of the monument in its original state (especially closely, to see the details) because they want to be as faithful to the original as possible. (And I ask myself how could we let our heritage get damaged in such a way that it could only be restored to its original state by pictures?, And how is it possible that the city does not have a photo archive?).

Anyway , it’s never too late if its for the good, and in view of the intentions of the council whoever would like to participate by sending their photos should do so at the following e-mail address

Published by under children

How many of you moms have been washing, combing or simpling touching your child’s hair when.. HORROR!! It can’t be! there is something moving…creepy crawlies that are living in your little ones mop of hair..I say it again, it can be! I wash my child’s hair daily, we are clean people, how could this happen? Lice, happens.

Lice (singular: louse), (order Phthiraptera), also known as fly babies, are an order of over 3,000 species of wingless insects; three of which are classified as human disease agents. They are obligate ectoparasites of every avian and most mammalian orders. They are not found on Monotremes (the platypus and the echidnas or spiny anteaters) and a few eutherian orders, namely the bats (Chiroptera), whales, dolphins and porpoises (Cetacea) and pangolins (Pholidota).

Fira de Tots els Sants in Concentaina

Published by under entertainment,tourists

In the northern province of Alicante, at the foot of the Sierra de Mariola, lies the town of Cocentaina, , which celebrates these days, the denominated ‘Fira de Tots els Sants’ from October 31st until the day 2nd of November.

For those of you who have never heard of this fair I must say that it is one of the largest exhibitions of handicrafts and agricultural machinery which is held in our community and one of the oldest, as it has been celebrated since the year 1346. The truth is that it is a wonder and a well worth  tour of the historic center of the town where Medival Markets and Muslism Zoco’s are found , here you can  acquire many precious objects and handicrafts and all kinds of sweets and  gastronomic products as ham, sausages and not to be missed the turron, and dried fruit selection.
So I would encourage you to visit this beautiful town on these holidays and enjoy a  different kind of tourism that no doubt you will love..
