The 2008 Olympics held in china are over and we must say that the opening and closing ceremonies were spectacular. We saw many great feats such as Michael Phelps 8 gold medals and world records and Usain Bolt’s 9.69 world record time in the100 metres. Are these guys are human?, And we can’t forget Spain’s silver medal win in basketball making the Americans sweat a little. From here at La Playa San Juan we want to congratulate to all of them and thank them for the pride they have given our country.
There were also those moments we would like to forget such as the kick that the Cuban Angel Mato the athlete which was involved in the discipline of Taekwondo, and was disqualified and banned from international competition for the rest of his life for kicking the referee when he didn’t like the call that was made..I’m glad that incidents like this are very few..

We are less than two weeks from the inauguration of the Summer Olympic Games 2008 being held in the city of Beijing from 8 to August 24. As every four years a large number of athletes in the world come together, forgetting their differences, to compete in different disciplines and make their countries proud. The origin of these games dates back to the year 776 BC when they were held for the first time in the Olympic city in Greece. Later in the year 1896 by the initiative of Baron de Coubertin they were re introduced as the first of the modern era in Athens and since then have been held every four years.
The Olympic Games are more than a mere sporting competition, it is showcase for the home country that organizes it to display to the rest of the world their natural beauty, its customs, its people and its infrastructure, many of which are built specially for this event. Spain already has its teams in place and we at La Playa San Juan wish them all the very best.

There is no doubt that soccer is one of the most universal sports around, it is played in five continents and in almost every country in some degree or other and growing more and more everyday. In Europe it sure is one of the most popular sports, but soccer also helps to foster international relations and exchanges experiences through its championships.
That is why the Alicante F.C. initiative is very commendable since they have decided to issue an annual pass for foreigners residing in our area at a reduced price in order to attract them to our local soccer games and integrate them more into the community. We congratulate the Alicante F.C., all other associations should take note and do the same!

Group Anec is organizing the very first Beach Tennis tournament on August 2nd and 3rd. This new Tenis-Padel and some volleyball modality is becoming a very popular sport with local sports fanatics because it is a fun way to stay in shape and healthy. The tournament will be held in the Voley Playa area in front of the Aitana Restaurant in Playa San Juan.
This sport is played with tennis or paddle rackets and balls, the court is the same as in beach volley and a net is placed somewhat lower than in volleyball . The score is done just like in Tennis although sometimes sets can be reduced to four games. The object of the game is to pass the ball over to the other team to be returned without touching the floor, it is played in pairs, a point is won when the ball is not returned within the field.
There will be cash and sporting good awards for all the winners.

Today we can not ignore the feat accomplished by the National Soccer Selection team of Spain, after 44 years of absolute drought on titles we have lifted the European Soccer Cup winning all matches of this final phase. No objection to this overwhelming triumph of the Spanish team which has been acknowledged by the press from different countries and their opponents.
Very few times has there been such a select group that joined forces to conquer a trophy. If I had to highlight the best player it would be very difficult because everyone did an outstanding job so I prefer not to give names because it would be unfair, instead I congratulate each and every player whose great work and sacrifice gave us the glory .
I leave the last mention to someone I think had huge percentage of ownership in this victory: Luis Aragones, our national team coach. Criticized, overwhelmed by fans and in many cases even harassed by the media, he continue with his efforts and was steadfast in his decision of the selected team, he formed an “invincible Armada” which today has given us great joy in this sport. We wish him the best of luck wherever he goes …. Maybe he will surprise us and stays with us.
¡¡¡Viva España!!! ¡¡¡Vivan Los Campeones!!!

Few sports have seen such a boom in recent years as Beach Volleyball. Pioneers of this activity have been the beaches of California (USA) and Copacabana (Brazil), to give some examples. We now have the opportunity to learn or refine this sport in our Playa San Juan. The Club Voley Playa arena Alicante and the Grupo Anec present the Fourth edition of the beach volleyball Summer School in Playa San Juan.
The school will take place during the months of July and August in the training areas of Club Voley that are set up in the Playa San Juan at the height of Restaurant Aitana. This program is geared towards all ages, from children groups to adults. Each age group will have a program tailored to their needs.
We hope that both young and the “mature” don’t miss this opportunity to learn a new sport, while exercising their muscles in a fun way.
The School will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with two separate classes:
Group A from 18-19:30 hours
Group B from 19:30 - 21 hours
