What the tourists do in Alicante

A survey carried out in the streets and published in the form of a clip by the Información newspaper of this capital lets us know the preferences of the tourists who visit us. This year there has been many complaints from restaurant owners who stated that most tourist order simpler dishes, such as pizzas and hamburgers although some also opt for our traditional paella. But on the other hand souvenir shop owners say they have not seen a decrease in sales and that tourist love to purchase souverniers and of course visit the Corte Inglés, a place that is very popular with the ladies from anywhere in the world.

But one thing all tourists agree with is that they just love the sun and our beaches and that is where our Playa San Juan comes in and offers all it can. And the within Alicante the Santa Barbara castle, the port area, the explanada and old town of Alicante complete the list of favorite places. Welcome!

La Fondue Restaurant

Published by bella under restaurants

Last weekend we decided to try a new small restaurant that opened up next to one of our favorite ice cream and pastry shops Decaramelo. La Fondue is a small restaurant offering indoor and outdoor sitting with a specialty as the name describes of fondue. This style of cousine is fun to gather around a couple of friends or family, even kids will love it, since they can take part in the cooking experience.

The menu at La Fondue is not extensive, they stick to the basics, (well, if you consider zebra and bizon meat basics), with a choice of cheese and meat fondues as well as appetizers and salads. Prices start at around 10 euros for an entree and up…A bit pricy for my taste but the service is good, the food delicious and the chocolate fondue to end to die for.

Buffet Libre Mare Nostrum Restaurant

Published by bella under food, beach, restaurants

We love to go to the beach on the weekend, spend the days in La Playa San Juan, soaking in the sun, the kids playing in the sand.. But when its time to go home and eat, it is hard to pull the kids away from the beach..One of our solutions is to take them out to eat..And Buffet Libre Mare Nostrum Restaurant is a great spot right on Avenida Niza..

Just as the name suggest they have a daily buffet with more than 70 dishes to choose from. They are open 13 h to 16 and have plenty of space for the entire family. What we love about this place is that the kids get to see what they want to eat and we can all pick and choose what we are in the mood for..No need to dress up, right from the beach so when you are done, you can go right back and enjoy..

Lights out in Playa San Juan

Published by bella under restaurants, stores

It seems that every summer there is some sort of power outtage in the Playa San Juan. Last night for a couple of hours part of San Juan was in the dark. Many restaurants and store owners were caught with a handful of customers that they were not able to serve properly. Iberdrola was able to fix the problem which up to now is unknown.

Could this be the first of many more this summer? Lets hope not, the summer is one of the busiest time of the year for vendors who have already placed complaints with City Hall to assure this is not a trend.

I found a very informative website that gives you all the information you need about restaurants in the area. La Taula offers everything you need to know when choosing a restaurant. You pick the city and type of restaurant you want to go to and La Taula does the rest.

I found the website to be very direct and clear, they also have a very interesting blog that gives you more gastronomic news and information. When choosing a restaurant choose La Taula first!

La Esquina del Pollo Restaurant

Published by bella under restaurants

La Esquina del Pollo is another small beach restaurant in Playa San Juan that is worth a visit, but do not be fooled by its name, this establishment, which of course offers exquisite chicken, is much more; among other things we suggest the carne a la parilla, grilled to your liking and Argentine empanadas (meat or chicken) a delight. You can eat at the place or order take out. Their prices are very reasonable and the customer service excellent!
