La Playa San Juan

We receive several emails everyday from tourists who are interested in traveling to this area of Spain, in particular the Costa Blanca and have many questions regarding travel, accomodations, places to go, things to do, tips for traveling with children etc.. We are happy to announce that we are preparing our very own Playa San Juan travel guide that we will offer free to those who are interested.

In the mean time I found a great website that already has great travel guides of the Costa Blanca area. Alicante-Spain offers you these free travel guides as well as a newsletter by simply entering your name and email.. It’s as simple as that, I just signed up and downloaded the travel guide which is full of very usefull information. We at Playa San Juan want to congratulate Hubert and his staff for an outstanding job , it is websites like his that makes us proud to be part of the Costa Blanca community.

In a previous post, we talked about the new brand of ice cream, by the Antiu Xixona Helados brand and commented on this company’s initiative to develop their products as natural as possible.

Today they remind us that they are continuing with their policy of healthy diets, and offering consumers a wide variety of ice creams made with 100% all natural fats and a high percentage of fruit that is well known to contain large amounts of vitamins, fiber and antioxidants which are key elements for a healthy heart since it helps fight low density cholesterol (bad cholesterol). All this and great taste, now we don’t have to feel guilty about our favorite summer treat.

Servicaja is a great website to find any kind of entertainment you wish such as movies, theater, music, sports and much more. All you need to do is select the event you are intersted in, the city, the date and the search will give you as many opcions as you wish.

The website is very informative and offers links for more information, movie trailers, and the best part you can purchase your entrance tickets on-line. A great service you must bookmark!

A survey carried out in the streets and published in the form of a clip by the Información newspaper of this capital lets us know the preferences of the tourists who visit us. This year there has been many complaints from restaurant owners who stated that most tourist order simpler dishes, such as pizzas and hamburgers although some also opt for our traditional paella. But on the other hand souvenir shop owners say they have not seen a decrease in sales and that tourist love to purchase souverniers and of course visit the Corte Inglés, a place that is very popular with the ladies from anywhere in the world.

But one thing all tourists agree with is that they just love the sun and our beaches and that is where our Playa San Juan comes in and offers all it can. And the within Alicante the Santa Barbara castle, the port area, the explanada and old town of Alicante complete the list of favorite places. Welcome!

The Transport and Ports network management according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, , have changed the tram transit draft in Playa San Juan and especially in the area of the Costa Blanca Avenue where its central section will have a single lane in each direction unlike the two it currently has. This amendment would affect this route from via Ave.Ave. de Cataluña until la Plaza de la Coruña. The Cabo Huertas portion will keep its two lanes but only  in the direction Albufereta.

The modification of this project is necessary to improve the integration landscape and increase the number of parking spaces. Cars will park in parallel in the closest to the beach and head first in the opposite side. The benefits to all this is not real clear. but what is evident is that the traffic  will be much slower, especially in summer time and with the disadvantage that when a someone in front of you wants to park everyone behind will have to wait until they are able ti fit it in (usually in very tiny spaces).

Let’s hope that these elected representatives have thougtht this amendment through and that we don’t end up with circulatory chaos where the cure is worse than the disease..

The Ministry of Environment has initiated a campaign by distributing fruit in various beaches in Spain among which is Alicante. The object of this initiative is to spread the benefits of  fruit in human diet, especially in the summer months. Although the consumption of fruit in our country increased slightly compared to last year, the intake of fruit does not exceed 15% in the overall diet of Spaniards, children between 5 and 17 years being the ones who consume the least among of fresh fruit.

Informative phamplets  will also be distributed to help educate the population about the benefits of fruit and try to increase the percentage they represent in our diet. A very good idea, we will have to figure out when La Playa Juan beaches will have their turn.

Air Nostrum a subsidiary of Iberia established a few days ago low-priced tickets (47.07 euros taxts included) for round trips between Alicante and Malaga, Bilbao, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, Asturias, Santander, Seville and Tenerife. There are some restrictions, such as buying travel 14 days before the flight and having to spend three days at the destination or Saturday night stay.

Tickets for this promotional fare are already on sale in Serviberia or through travel agencies while the latter can charge a fee for managing the transaction you can be assured that you are receiving the help of  professionals in the field. The fare runs until August 25th for flights from that date until October 31, 2008.

We are glad to see that in times of tight economic “crisis” airlines are willing to provide passengers reduced rates to encourage tourism. Undoubtedly Playa San Juan will benefit from this offer. This is great news.

I have many favorite blogs which I will share with you from time to time, but today I want to talk about a new blog that was presented to me a couple of weeks ago with a very interesting concept. It is called Positivo Digital (Positive Digital) and it only writes about “good news”, yes, only good news…I think its a great idea and wish them the very best of luck..

We at La Playa San Juan believe in positive thinking and know that if you set your mind on something and visualize hard enough it will come true. So it has been with this blog, an idea that has come to fruition and is slowly growing everyday with the help from readers like yourself. Thank you for supporting us and we hope you will follow our jouney into “positive spaces”.

Group Anec is organizing the very first Beach Tennis tournament on August 2nd and 3rd. This new Tenis-Padel and some volleyball modality is becoming a very popular sport with local sports fanatics because it is a fun way to stay in shape and healthy. The tournament will be held in the Voley Playa area in front of the Aitana Restaurant in Playa San Juan.

This sport is played with tennis or paddle rackets and balls, the court is the same as in beach volley and a net is placed somewhat lower than in volleyball . The score is done just like in Tennis although sometimes sets can be reduced to four games. The object of the game is to pass the ball over to the other team to be returned without touching the floor, it is played in pairs, a point is won when the ball is not returned within the field.

There will be cash and sporting good awards for all the winners.

Group ANEC is organizing a beach volleyball tournament Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of July at the Hotel Almirante. There will be two male categories as well as two female categories. The competitions will be held in morning and afternoon. There will be cash prizes and sporting equipment for all the winners.

This sport is becoming very popular in Playa San Juan as we have mentioned in other posts and is one of the many activities offered to locals and vacationers in our area. We want to wish the organization every success and congratulate for this initiative.
